INTRODUCTION

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to celebrate Christmas in another country? Well, you are going to have the opportunity to find out. Imagine that this Christmas season someone from another country will be visiting you. Your job is to research the traditions of that country, and plan how your family will accommodate for your new friend. You will learn what foods to eat, how they decorate, and other traditions from that country.

TASK

When you have completed this project you will be sharing the information you have gather with the class. In your presentation you will need to include:

  • What your plans are to celebrate during the holidays
  • What kind of food you will eat
  • Customs of your friend that will be visiting
  • How your guest decorates for Christmas
  • What the climate is like around this time of year in their country (does it snow?)
  • It is your job to inform your classmates of the customs and traditions of your friend that will be visiting for the holidays.
  • By the end of your presentation your classmates should know how to accommodate for a guest if they were in a situation where they were having a guest from the country you chose.
  • You may present the information you gather in the form of a report, poster, PowerPoint, or a combination of ideas. Be creative!
  • HAVE FUN!

PROCESS

Process:
STEP 1:
Meet with your group to decide what country you would like to have your guest visit from. Tell the teacher what country you chose, so you do not chose a country another group has already chosen. It is first come, first serve, so don’t waste your time!

Merry Christmas Around the World
You may also use the link from step one to search for traditions from the country your group chose

STEP 3:
We will be going to the library today to find books about each country. While we are there you will need to find out what food is eaten in the country you chose, what the weather is like at this time of the year, and any other interesting facts you can find about Christmas in your guests country.

STEP 4:
As a group think of your own Christmas traditions and compare them to the traditions of your new friends. Are they any traditions you would like to keep and share with your new friend? If so, narrow it down to one or two and explain what the tradition is, and how you will share it with your friend from another country.

STEP 5:
Put together all the information you have gathered. Begin preparing your presentation for the class. You may use posters, power point, a report, you may bring visuals, be creative. Remember you need to inform your classmates of the Christmas traditions of the country your guest is from. The information needs to be presented clearly, so if any of your classmates were ever in the situation, where they actually did have a guest visiting for Christmas from the country you chose, they would be able to make appropriate accommodations for them.

STEP 6:
Present your final project to the class (each group will be allowed five minutes).
